Dr Eileen Tan-Gore is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with post-Fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgery and Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Surgery. She is committed to providing comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial services to the Hunter Region and has an interest in all aspects of her speciality, including the management of facial trauma, dentoalveolar surgery including surgical removal of wisdom teeth, oral pathology, TMJ dysfunction, implantology and corrective jaw surgery.
She has a special interest in both the ablative and reconstructive surgical management of Oral Cancer, Salivary Gland Pathology and Advanced Skin Cancer. She values the team-based approach to Head and Neck Cancer management. This enables various specialists, nursing staff and allied health staff to contribute their particular area of expertise to patient care. She firmly believes that patients and their families should be actively engaged and empowered as part of this team during their treatment.
In 2017 she undertook further specialty training at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney, completing a Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery as part of the Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute program. During her Fellowship, she trained under Head and Neck, General, Ear Nose Throat and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, which enabled her to be exposed to all aspects of Head and Neck surgery including the management of oral cavity cancer, advanced skin cancer, melanoma and salivary gland pathology. She developed a special interest in the reconstructive management of complex Head and Neck conditions and is trained in microvascular free-flap reconstructive surgery.
She also has an interest in TMJ dysfunction and pathology, and completed a mini-Residency in TMJ surgery with the University of Maryland, USA. She aims to provide patients with progressive and comprehensive TMJ dysfunction treatment from minimally invasive TMJ arthroscopic surgery to TMJ replacement surgery.
Dr Tan-Gore holds a Consultant position at John Hunter Hospital and maintains privileges at several private hospitals in the Hunter Region.
She completed her studies in Queensland where she obtained a MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and a BDSc (Bachelor of Dental Science) as a requirement for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training in Australia. Dr Tan-Gore completed training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Queensland, the Northern Territory and New Zealand before attaining her Fellowship with the RACDS (OMS) in 2016.
Eileen is happily settled in Newcastle with her husband Darryl and enjoys spending time in or on the ocean. She tries her best to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.
